If you've been struggling for some time with your emotions and can't seem to get out of the pattern, this is a good time to see a professional. If you've been feeling severely depressed and possibly suicidal, you need immediate help. Should you be suffering from an anxiety disorder and you're not sleeping well, seek help so you can sort through the fears and unconscious emotional blocks. Or if you're self-esteem is causing relationship problems and you're stuck in negative patterns, you'll need help learning to love yourself and others.
It can be difficult to see ourselves objectively. With the best of intentions, we may have family and friends who believe they can help, but because of their emotional involvement, this often isn't the best source for healing. It is best to seek help from a therapist who knows how to be objective and can help guide you in the right direction.
This all depends on how deep-seated the problem may be. For example, relationship problems may just need one or two sessions. Healing emotional trauma from a dysfunctional childhood can sometimes require anywhere from a few months to a year or more.
Absolutely not. You are free to come for one session only if that's all you need. There is no commitment to long-term therapy.
